Share to

24 October, 2025

John Harms plans to host an evening at Wanera Wine Bar in Angaston, 6pm Thursday November 27th, when he will chat to the 5 ministers in the book The Hugamug Club –

Brian Schwarz, Robert Voigt, Amel Manyon, Len Gerschwitz and Jim Bryan. Steen Olsen will launch the book.

For $30 attendees also enjoy a 2-course meal - alternate drop menu of beef or chicken + vegetables, and alternate desserts. Wonderful value!

We are most fortunate to have John Harms and his wife Susan living in Tanunda. John is a gifted writer, historian, publisher, speaker, publishing consultant, MC, lunch host, broadcaster, and co-creator of the very popular Footy Almanac website. This started as a footy writing site but quickly became a platform for writing on memoir, poetry, music, short fiction, and art. John often hosts speakers over a meal, most recently interviewing Neil Balme and Rick Darling at the Tanunda Clubhouse.

SBLC Child Safe - Governance

Governance - If it is to lead, do it diligently. (Romans 12:8)

Governance refers to the role and responsibilities of a designated group elected or appointed by the congregational members, which works with and leads the congregation.

Your church Council is seen as a leader within your church and are integral to the life of a congregation. They establish the strategy and goals ensuring compliance with church policies.

Governance helps provide accountability and enables Councils to make plans and have a process to monitor and supervise those plans.

Do you know who your church Council members are?

SBLC Survey Update

Southern Barossa Lutheran Church Survey Update.

You will recall completing the survey, designed by the Lutheran Church of Australia SA/NT District together with input from the SBLC Governance Council and Ministry team, earlier this year. The District Office staff have compiled the data, and Assistant Bishop, Stephen Schultz, gave a brief overview when he preached at the Combined Service in August.

The response numbers from people were very high and detailed, with around 380 of the 721 surveys sent out. On Sunday, October19, 2025, Church and Parish Councils, together with the Ministry Team, Call Committee and the Governance Council came together to look more closely at the Survey results together with Assistant Bishop, Stephen Schultz. The results of the survey indicated that enacting a “one church” model was considered the most important way to support our membership and engage with our community.

The results of the survey identified the following points as being important to the membership in no specific order:

Worship Service Coordination, Enacting the Call process, Enacting the “one Church” model, Communication strategy, A system of Pastoral Care., Faith Growth Opportunities, Outreach Strategies, Young people engagement.

After further discussion, people present were asked to select the three most important areas. The result indicated that enacting a “One Church” model was considered the most important. The next two areas were to resume the “Call process” and engage our young people. It was agreed that we have a goal of becoming “One Church, Many Doors” by the end of April 2026.

We understand that this means our members will form one family of believers with multiple worship locations. The next steps are to distribute an Action Plan with timelines to all members, resume the “Call” process and then hold Q & A sessions to address any questions.

A printed copy of the full Survey report is available from The Hub, or Lyndoch and Langmeil Churches.

Yours in Christ Phillip Hiscock on behalf of SBLC Leadership Teams
